As Research Associate and Coordinator, Roland McFarland comes to the Weintraub Center with 15 years of research experience at UCLA and at the Greater Los Angeles Veterans' Administration Medical Center.  As an understudy to Dr. Neal Garrett and Dr. Krishan Kapur, he has conducted over a thousand research tests to determine patients' oral sensory and motor functions, and serves as a liaison between the principal investigator and patient/subject. He also is involved in technical writing and manuscript editing, coordinating research applications and IRB submissions, facilitating proper training and certification of laboratory personnel, coordinating and providing logistical assistance for seminars and lectures, and overseeing day-to-day operations for the Center.

Quote:

"My primary role as Research Coordinator will be to keep all of the studies running like well-oiled machines; to ensure that strict research protocols are maintained, and to personalize any research that involves human subjects. With the seemingly exponential rate at which the area of dental and medical research is advancing, I am very excited to be a part of the Weintraub Center, and am looking forward to the challenges, big and small, that the future holds for everyone involved."

Areas of Research:

1. Oral Sensorimotor Function in Dentates and Denture Wearers
2. Functional Outcomes of Prosthodontic Treatments
3. Dental Implantology
