Facility

The significant commitment of a generous gift by Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Weintraub has made it possible to establish The Jane and Jerry Weintraub Center for Reconstructive Biotechnology which comprises the flagship facility for the latest advancement of tissue engineering. The facilities of the Weintraub Center for Reconstructive Biotechnology lie within the UCLA School of Dentistry, and comprise a structure of architectural note. Completed in July 2002, the Weintraub Center houses over 5,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratories, digital communication and conference centers, and offices in support of basic, translational and clinical research. More than 30 scientists including six primary investigators, their research fellows and allied associates conduct scientific research and testing in an open environment that is conducive to the development of both a collegial atmosphere and future interdisciplinary collaborative efforts. The existence of such a modern research complex will enable the faculty to attract federal, corporate and private funding to expand the research enterprise in these areas. Jane and Jerry Weintraub were instrumental in promoting the belief that the special attention given to the Center’s design would create an uplifting environment for patients, visitors and staff alike.
